Backstory :: Dzara grew up with a ceiling and sky of saltwater. She shared her room with her brother, Pioki, their space divided by a warm violet curtain. Always close, that curtain was only a visual barrier. They shared secrets through its draped surface every night, talking about anything and everything. That veil symbolized their bond. Their days, when not in school, were spent swimming with the parijana gopayati, encouraging them to give in to their natural mischievous tendencies. Dzara and Pioki managed to scatter schools of fish and confuse the other whales on a near-daily basis. When Dzara was 28, working on her continued education to become a doctor, Pioki confided in her that he had been seeing a girl and been intimate with her, but despite contraception, he feared that she had become pregnant. Dzara had known for some time that he was seeing someone; he would disappear for hours several days a week. When he had shared with her what was happening, she was grateful that he had finally stopped withholding his secret. There had been no secrets between them before, and until he confessed, she had been hurt that he didn’t trust her. What he didn’t tell her was that the girl was Danava. It didn’t take long before the Sihabahu patrolmen caught them. Overnight, everything changed. Her brother was gone, as were all signs of him. Pictures of Pioki were burned and deleted, his possessions disappeared, and that violet curtain was torn down. Since then, the other side of the room has seen the occasional temporary tenant, but the space is now vacant. Dzara has never been able to overtake the space with her own things. While many pitied her family, Dzara felt almost disconnected from the deviant part of her brother. Yes, she knew what he had done, that he had been put in prison for seven years, only to start life over with a sexually deviant criminal record when he was released… if he survived. But that image of him was so distant, so separate from the Pioki she had grown up with, the Pioki she knew, that she never thought to feel sorry for herself. True, she was heartbroken that he would no longer be near her, to spend his days with his beloved sister until he was married, and angry at the blasted Danava who tempted and ruined him, but never sorry. She completed her medical training and now works as a general practitioner in the underwater clinics of Chokor Samandar, now and then heading up to Paarthiva Urlanga and other parts of the ship, but returning to the humid comfort of the domed structures underwater. In her free time she frequents the whale veterinarians to spend time with the mellow creatures. She still swims freely now and again, but it doesn’t feel the same without her brother.

Personality :: Dzara is sentimental and somewhat romantic. Her memories mean a great deal to her, especially those of her brother, as she has no memorabilia from him. She has only mild mods, though in her youth she had many more. In recent years she has had mod reversals done one at a time, so she would have time to adjust to the change and be able to walk around without feeling naked. She now has mods practical to her undersea situation, and only her two favorite cosmetic mods: her scales and Static-Float hair. She became a doctor because she feels that it’s an important calling—and because of the credit increase. Dzara is soft-spoken, and is known for her sweet bedside manner. She does, now and again, get attached to persons with terminal illness, incurable with modern medicine. During these times, she hardly leaves the patient’s bedside, often forgoing sleep to make sure they don’t die alone. In this, though, she neglects other patients and her colleagues. Some of her friends worry that with this tendency and her romantic views, she might fall in love with someone who wouldn’t live out the month. Dzara denies that any such thing could happen, though in her heart she knows it is a real possibility. In the aftermath of her brother’s arrest, Dzara hardly had time to process what was happening. It was as if he had died, only worse due to the destruction of his images and possessions. She felt as if she walked through a haze for some weeks before she realized that she couldn’t go on that way. She dedicated herself to her studies, knowing that Pioki would have wanted her to move on and be at peace. And to terrorize a few fish now and again, though without him about it is hard for her to put her heart into it. It is a good thing, however, that he never told her the Danava’s name, else she might have had to find the Pani Bey-Rehem and have her taken care of.

Description :: Standing 5’ 8”, Dzara is only slightly taller than average. She has soft features due to the protective, warming layer of fat shared by many Miira-Svatantra. Her chocolate skin tone is neither too pale nor an ideally dark shade. With her Static-Float mod, her loose copper ringlets drift upwards behind her as if she were sinking through water. She has dark-lashed eyes of stormy blue. She has a round face with high, soft cheekbones. Her arched brows and the quirk at the corner of her mouth make her look as if she is constantly smiling—or as if she knows something you don’t. As she walks, she seems to float, due to her mod and her manner of walking. She moves with a slow grace, as if drifting through water. Her favorite colors to wear are warm violets and reds, often with details in blue and gold.
